Beginning a new exercise routine can be a challenge, especially if you’re not used to working out. The key is to start out small with easy forms of exercise. Here are three ideas for daily exercise if you’ve been a couch potato.
- Take more walks. No matter how long it’s been since you’ve last exercised, walking is a great exercise to start with. When you’re at home, you can take a walk around your neighborhood. At work, you can use the stairs instead of the elevator. Not only is walking easy, but it’s a great exercise for weight loss.
- Find an activity you enjoy. Exercise tends to be much easier when you don’t dread it. The key is finding an activity you love. Swimming, dancing, bike riding, hiking, or even horseback riding. The more you enjoy what you’re doing, the more you’ll be likely to continue to do it.
- Try a home workout DVD. There are a number of DVD workout programs out there with varying levels of intensity. You’ll likely be able to find one that works for you. You may be more likely to exercise if you do it from the comfort of your own living room, rather than joining a gym.
