If you are like most families you probably have pizza night once a week. Making homemade pizza at home is a great way to save money, creates an opportunity to get kids in the kitchen, and control the ingredients that go into it. This pizza crust is super simple to make and can be used to create pizzas, Calzones, pizza pockets, or bread sticks. Just a few simple ingredients, five minutes of prep time and you can be making customized pizzas with your favorite toppings. No waiting for the dough to rise, just a few minutes to allow it rest that will allow it to be rolled out easily and have the perfect texture.
You will need:
2 ¾ -3 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup warm water
1 packet of active dry yeast
2 ½ Tbsp. olive oil
1 tsp. Salt
1 Tbsp. Sugar
Preheat oven to 475°
Pour warm water into the large bowl of a stand mixer , sprinkle yeast on top and allow it to sit for 5 minutes, until foamy.
Add in sugar, salt, and Olive oil.
Mix on low for 1 minute.
Add flour ½ cup at a time, mixing on low speed, until dough is smooth and just slightly sticky-this is about 7-8 minutes total.
Remove dough from bowl and place on a floured surface, cover with a clean dish towel-allow it to rest for 10 minutes.
Roll dough out to size/shape of your pizza pan.
I season my stoneware pan with olive oil and then dust with cornmeal before placing pizza crust on.
Top crust with your favorite toppings and bake for 12-14 minutes until cheese begins to bubble and becomes golden brown!
**To make a Calzone:
Roll dough out to desired size, fill half with desired toppings, fold over and pinch all the way around, bake for 12-14 minutes until crust it lightly golden.
