For some time, I’d been considering buying a backyard fire pit, but I was put off by the cheap flimsy construction of many of them found in the usual home improvement centers. When I learned of an opportunity to review the CobraCo Vintage 100% Copper Fire Pit from Woodstream, I jumped at the chance! As soon as the box arrived, I tore into it, expecting cheap and flimsy parts that wouldn’t fit together well…
I was wrong.
The CobraCo Fire Pit came very carefully packaged and in good shape. Immediately upon opening it, I was quite impressed by the beauty and heft of the rustproof copper fire bowl. All the steel legs and support rings were precision formed and heavily built. There is a domed mesh cover to contain the inevitable flying sparks & cinders, and a steel grate to support the logs. A steel poker is also included to lift the cover and position the logs.
Just by looking at this thing, I could see that it had been designed to last a very long time.
Assembly was a snap, using the supplied hex wrench, hex screws, and predrilled and threaded fasteners. After about ten minutes, it was fully assembled and ready to go. One thing to note is that there are instructions to place a layer of sand on the bottom of the tub to help distribute the heat more evenly. I did this, then placed the steel log grate on top of the sand. The next night, we loaded it up with some nice dry logs, and transformed our patio into a relaxing and cozy outdoor living room.
Our daughter even made pudgy pies over the fire using my old pudgy pie iron from my cub scout days. And yes, they were delicious!
