When you are going through someone’s belongings, you occasionally find “treasures”.
This was one of those instances.
The quilt we found at my in-laws was nothing complicated.
About 50 years ago, someone (probably his grandmother) took two sheets,
stuck batting in between them, sewed them together and tied in in areas with some yarn.
Yes, a simple “tie” quilt.
He remembers it being on his bed when he was a little kiddo.
This one was in sad shape, just look at one of the edges in my hand:
So, I got out the pins and pinned a lot of areas back together…
Then popped it under the sewing machine.
That still left a few “holes” in it that I could only fix one way…
Basically “darning” it with Zig Zag satin stitching.
I would have patched it but I had no excess fabric to work with AND
A patch or two on it would kind of kill the look, dated as it is.
He seems to like it.
And so does my pinning assistant…
