Make your own popsicles!
I talk at my classes about using V8 Fusion, cutting it in half with water, and freezing in your molds to make your own – much healthier version – of a cool treat for a hot day. I also have a bunch of recipes here
How about Sidewalk chalk?
1 Cup Plaster of Paris, 3/4 C water, and powdered Tempera paint (to color them) is all you need! Mix the three together, put in anything from an ice cube tray to Jell-O mold. Let it dry over night and you are ready to decorate the neighborhood! This is non-toxic, let’s them MAKE it and then USE it and saves you money.
Let there be Bubbles!
What little person doesn’t like blowing bubbles? You can make a wand out of almost anything from a spatula to wire coat hanger that it bent. Experiment with different shapes, try a compare/contrast event! This recipe is environmentally friendly – from the National Wildlife Federation.
1/4 cup liquid dishwashing detergent (available in pharmacies)
We all scream for Ice Cream! Let them make it and then eat it – – how fun is that?
- 2 T Sugar
- 1 C Half and Half
- 1/2 tsp extract (what flavor you want) – usually we pick vanilla
- 1/2 cup salt
- 12 or so large ice cubes (fills gallon zippy bag 1/2 full)
- pint size zippy bag
- gallon sized zippy bag
