I clearly remember Miss Sarah’s first (and only) tantrum. She was 13 months, over tired and crabby. I told her “no” to something and she melted down.
I know every parent has experienced this: the exponentially and impossibly loud sound emanating from the child’s mouth and then the boneless mass that drops to the floor, occasionally kicking. Thankfully, this happened at home and now out and about.
I wasn’t sure how to handle it, but I said nothing, stepped over her and left the room. It got pretty quiet and then, she got up – came into the room I was in and started again. I repeated my actions, she got quiet again and I waited. And waited, and waited…then I peeked in and she was sound asleep? Oiy!
I know she isn’t the only child in the world who has been overtired, angry, frustrated, scared, sad or disappointed. THAT is why I fell in love with the Feeling Buddies system from Conscious Discipline. Using the simple system, you simply need:
- A Parent
- A Child
- A Safe Place
- The Mini Feeling Buddies with carrying case
- The Helping My Buddies (book)
- The Listen to Your Feelings (CD)
