Thanks to Reader Anne S for this one:
–This one is for OLDER kids but it can be fun!
Did you know Marlene Dietrich had her back molars removed to give her cheeks that “gaunt” look?
A classic Hollywood icon – this German lady came to the US about 1930 and became a star here and then entertained OUR troups after becoming a citizen in 1937. (Yes, I did a paper on her in college, LOL)!
They have two of her movies playing for FREE at a screening on the UW Campus:
- 7:00 PM: Shanghai Express
- 8:30 PM – The Devil is a Woman
Both at the Vilas Communication Hall — see more HERE

Visit the UW Geology Museum
1215 W. Dayton St., 262-2399, http://www.geologymuseum.org/ (Mon-Fri 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Sat. 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Free.) —Besides its extensive mineral, rock and fossil collections behind glass, kids can touch rocks from a time when there were volcanoes in Wisconsin, see rocks and minerals that glow, and stand under huge mastodon tusks. Great for those like my daughter who want to be a Paleontologist!
