I took it to the deli counter and had them cut it into half. Half was shaved and half was sliced about 1/3 of an inch thick. This way, I could easily package it and pop into the freezer…and it was a STEAL as the shaved ham in the deli was $5.99/#. I now am restocked for ham sandwiches and roll ups, and the slices will be easy to dice for scalloped potatoes or soups. I think I will make a ham dinner one night with some baked hash browns and sweet potatoes! (YUM!)
Total Paid: $8.88 – and the cashier was amazed at me having it sliced and shaved already.
It is already packaged into 6oz portions for shaved ham and I have small sheets of waxed paper in between the slices — all now happy in the freezer! Why 6 ounce portions? That is the right size for a meal in our family. That is three sandwiches with lettuce, tomato and onion. That is four ham sandwich wraps. That is three bundles of broccoli or asparagus wrapped with ham and topped with a little hollendaise sauce. That is a full pan of home made chicken cordon bleu filling. That is enough to make those ham-cream cheese-pickle roll up appetizers…you get the idea.
After that, we zipped over to Aldi as we were so close.
- Pineapple @$.99
- Avocados @$.49 (we got 4)
- Iceberg lettuce @$.99
- Bananas @$.38/# – $1.35
- Milk @$2.19
- String Cheese @$3.29 (highway robbery….ugh!)
- and my favorite: Caramel Rice Cakes @$1.29
Now let’s do some math…

$32.31 To go
– $7.16 Aldi Run
$24.95 to go
+ 14.45 Target 12/15
– $8.88 HyVee 12/15
-$12.76 Aldi 12/15
$17.76 to go…..yikes!

we will see how I do!
