I got 3 of the jars of peanut butter (HyVee brand), 3# of ground beef, 1 head of iceberg lettuce and 2 pie pumpkins for a total of $15.60.
I wanted to share a few details with you:
The pumpkins were 2 for $3 and had a great variety of sizes. I weighed a few and some were 2.5 pounds and some were almost 5 pounds (the ones I got). That made them about $.30 a pound!!! Yes, one is already roasting in my crock pot like I shared HERE.
Now, for the ground beef. It was 80% lean and a three pound pack for $5.97. Compare this to the 85% lean three pound pack for $10.49!! That is $1.50 more a pound for a 5% difference. I am cheap (I know, shocker!) and won’t pay that extra $4.50 for that 2.4 ounces of extra meat.
The ground beef is simmering with onions in the skillet right now – it will turn into sloppy joes, lasagna and chili over the next 2 weeks. I would have gotten MORE of the ground beef but still have a voucher that will let me get 10 pounds for $19.99 — so no worries.
Peanut butter. (sigh). It’s a staple at our house and slated for a HUGE price increase due to the failing peanut crops this year. The jars I got were store brand, but 56 ounces for $1.98. Compared to their 3 pack bundle of Peter Pan for $3.99 has 48 ounces (three 16 ounce jars) — so you get LESS for twice the price. I MIGHT have to go back, break the budget and get a few more jars for this price…it’s a great deal and it would let me make my peanut butter fudge for the holiday gifts.
