disclosure: we were given a set for purposes of review. All thoughts are entirely our own and I dare you to try to take it away from my daughter…
What is it about little ones and fairies? My daughter has been a fan of those little sprites since the first time she saw a Tinkerbell movie. The Irish Fairy Door fit her imagination to a tee!
The kits come with a door, the tiniest key you have ever seen in a little glass vial, some stepping-stones, a book and a contract. My daughter was jumping in circles anxious to get her door in place and welcome the fairies.
The Irish Fairy door we were sent came already painted and ready to go (there are sets that allow your child to decorate the door from scratch) but that didn’t stop my daughter from adding her own embellishments and making it special.
The story that comes with the Irish Fairy Door is very cute and walks you through a great little story about how to use your door. I deviated from the book a bit. Earlier this year my daughter got a little fairy figurine and named her “Blue Moon”. We decided our door would be used by Blue Moon to go back and forth from Fairy Valley so she could visit friends and family. For that reason my daughter did not want to use the contract. She felt Blue Moon was part of the family so it wasn’t necessary – pretty cute!
That’s the kind of things that is so great about a simple idea like the fairy door- it allows your child to tell their own story. The door itself is as simple as it gets . If fact it’ sort of generous to call it a door since it doesn’t have hinges or any way to open and the keyhole is fake. My daughter is young enough to believe in fairy magic and decided that to us it’s just wood and fairy magic makes it open.
My daughter lost a tooth a few days after we received the door which seemed like the perfect opportunity! We set the door up with the step stone, a welcome mat, mailbox and most importantly the little key so that Blue Moon could let the tooth fairy in. I had a lot of fun writing a letter from the tooth fairy mentioning using the door and taking the key…a sure way to know a fairy used the door! Needless to say, the following morning when she read the letter and saw the key was gone, she flipped!
The Irish Fairy Door is absolutely adorable! If you have a child who loves fairies and has a big imagination, this simple idea will bring a lot of joy! The Irish Fairy Door is retailed at an affordable $19.99 – you can get them here
