In my coupon class, I teach people how to save money at the stores. That is half of the equation for saving money on food, meal planning is the other half to it.
You have to USE the food you have brought home and not let yourself make the “fast food run” – those add up fast and kill your budget!
Meal planning also saves you time – no more getting home and playing “open up the cupboard doors, what falls out is for dinner” game. You KNOW what you are going to make/eat and have the recipes and ingredients handy. THIS saves you both time and money, two great things!
Last week we did great – WAY under budget for the last week of our All You Magazine Grocery Challenge…and this week, we are facing a dangerous heat wave. We planned ahead and made some COOL items so we wouldn’t add more heat to the house when it is already 95 out and we are told to add another 20 degrees for the “heat index.” Oiy! I am also overseeing two Tupperware booths at local county fairs this week – so SIMPLE is a good word!
This week I have a bread outlet and quick Copp’s run planned….maybe a HyVee too! Any time you see ** it means it was something pulled out of the freezer.
Here is the list:
Breakfast will include:
– Blueberry Bluberry Muffins
– Strawberry Banana Crepes**
– Emerald Breakfast To Go Granola/Nut packs
– boxed cereal (might as well, we have 30 boxes in stock!)
– Strawberry waffles
– breakfast cookies
– Melon Berry smoothies**
Lunches as normal (sandwiches, soup, left overs, tappas plates) and for dinner…
Sunday: Friends over and Beer Can Chicken on the grill! (the rest is potluck)
Monday- Cold tuna pasta salad
Tuesday – Potato salad and sandwiches
Wednesday – beer can chicken salad on multi grain rolls**, more potato salad
Thursday – Tossed Taco Salad
Friday – Grilled Salmon**, veggies/dip, rice pilaf (the heat wave is supposed to be broken)

What are you going to feed YOUR family this week?
