Starting with Milwaukee — they are looking at popping three stores into our state. Meijer plans to build a 191,000-square-foot store on Port Washington Road in Grafton, a 192,000-square-foot store at Highway 100 and Loomis Road in Franklin and a 157,000-square-foot store at 11123 W. Burleigh St. in Wauwatosa. They want a big piece of the Roundy’s Pie and see the Milwaukee area as a great start.
I totally expect Madison and Green Bay to follow…as they are a STRONG presence already in Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky.
What IS the Meijer Chain of stores like?
Think Big Box (Like Wal-Mart) but more upscale (Like Target).
Add in the new Costco Stores, Hy-Vee and the Wal-Marts that are going “Super”, throw in a few new Woodman’s stores and it should be a VERY different shopping climate in the next few years.
All have their pros and cons, but I think WE, as the Consumer, will get the best of the deal as they all fight for our loyalty.
