There has been a steady trend through the media about “going back to the basics” in home food preparation – even Good Morning America had a feature on grinding your own grains for baking. It’s the newest trend: literally doing it yourself. We used to joke in my family about the “Martha Stewart” way of making something like a loaf of bread:
- grow the grain
- dry the grain
- grind it
- make the dough
- bake it into bread
Of course, it was served with homemade butter: from the cow you raised, milked, etc. We used to laugh so hard about it!
—>It’s not so funny, now that I have become a “Just-In-Time Miller”.
By purchasing organic grains, I can make fresh flour as I need it; just in time for baking. I no longer have to rely on the over bleached and then re-fortified flour on the mass market, worry about the carcinogens that come from the bromide process, or having too much “white” food. My family is getting used to the rich, nutty flavors of brown breads and I am having fun making things like fresh pasta or pizza dough with miss Sarah. She recently learned how to hand-pop dough into rolls.
It’s incredible and I’m addicted.
I have shared a little about my new love of rice flour HERE along with 20 different rice flour/gluten free recipes and at the end of this post you will see my video with my favorite new toy: my Wolfgang Mockmill. It instantly turns stand mixers (like AEG, KitchenAid Kenmore, Electrolux and more) into automatic stone mills. Gone are the thoughts of the Ingall’s family agonizingly hand-grinding wheat in their coffee grinder during The Long Winter…this is BEYOND easy to operate.
WHY do I love the Mockmill?
- It lets me be a “Just-In-Time Miller” as it’s small size makes it so handy to use, and then store. Clean up is a breeze and it works like a gem. You can see it in my video below.
- I adore the people behind the company.
Wolfgang and Paul bring their passion for baking and milling fresh grains to a new level. They really want to share their love for baking with everyone and make it more than simple for them to follow in their footsteps. They are interested in more than just selling people a grain mill, they want to share the joy they found in creating family moments with wholesome food. They want to bring you into the fresh bread community, not just make a quick sale.
- They are not new to the grain milling game.
Wolfgang has been working with grain mills for decades with his pioneering research on diet and how it effects us. This gem is well made, easy to clean and uses real stones.
- This is an affordable option for families that must remain gluten free. The Mockmill will pay for itself quickly as you no longer have to buy expensive specialty flours! My video shows me making enough rice flour for pancakes in less than 2 minutes!
The best I saved for last: They gave me an AMAZING offer for you! Their summer Mockmill promotion is pictured just below. It’s a collection worth $259 and with my special code, YOU SAVE $80 !
There is even a Gluten Free option!!!
What is in the kit?
- A Mockmill
- A special reprint of the book Flour Power. It is a great resource on why it is so great to make your own flours as well as having a bunch of great recipes included.
- A variety of grains for you to play with
The best part?
You can order more than one! Think ahead for the holidays – who do you know who loves to play in the kitchen? Who is always watching the Food network? This is the PERFECT gift for them!
disclosure: I was compensated for this post. You will have to pry my Mockmill out of my hands by sheer force or several bottles of wine. I love it and you need to get your own. Seriously. You can’t have mine. Get your own.
