My advice : RELAX……
I told you three months ago that they were working on a new policy and that some parts of it had already been taken into common practice like Pick N Save stores no longer taking Walgreen’s Register Rewards.
They have been hit HARD by counterfeiters who have photo copied/scanned and printed IP coupons and rude – make that RUDE shoppers who clear shelves and do 6-10 transactions at peak shopping times.
As for the fake coupons, they don’t get reimbursed for them.
It comes out of their pockets and has happened to a lot of stores 30+ minutes north of Madison. I hope that they nail the buggers who are doing it – that kind of coupon fraud is a federal offense and can net a person 3-5 years in prison.
Now lets talk rude shoppers…
There is NO reason to clear a shelf when stores only need about a 3 day notice to put in a pre-order. Depending on the items, most stores like a call if you are planning on 25+ of an item. Clearing shelves makes for crabby consumers after you, crabby employees who have to make rain checks, and crabby store directors who have to listen to all of it.
When the store is busy, PLEASE do not do your 5-7 transactions all at the same time. Do two, put them in your car and then repeat. If you are like me, and shop at 6AM, it’s a different thing. There is literally no one at my store so I hold up no one.
They HAVE been talking about a couple of additions/revisions to their policy but NOTHING is set in stone yet.
Things they have talked about?
- Possibly letting customers double 5-10 coupons every day with a store card. That would be PER DAY, not per transaction.
- Only letting people do 2 transactions on double coupon days with a store card instead of the 5-7 that we are used to.
- Limiting the number of Internet Printed coupons people can use.
- Limiting the number of coupons (any) that people can use in a transaction.
- Stronger limits on sale items.
Is any of it in print yet?
Have they been working on it for months?
Would it be easy to enforce all of that?
Not until all their stores have the same computer system, which they currently do not.
There are a LOT of stores to shop at — ALL of them have their pros and cons. We have no power over their store policies but can still score great deals no matter what they are. I have gotten out of stores for $.07 before – ones that do NOT double coupons.
Keep stocking up on a few extra things right now – build that stock pile. Work your store selling cycles and try some of my tips from the “How to Cut 50% off your grocery budget post”.
There is no point to getting our undies in a bundle until something actually comes out in print so take a deep breath.
It will all be OK.
You will still get great deals.
