I love saving money, and sometimes it just simply means planning ahead a bit. When a certain holiday is coming up on us, I like to peruse the stores and see what they have. This is where a good cell phone comes in handy, so you can take pictures of things that gain your interest.
After doing a rough inventory at home, I knew I needed a few more fun, small things for sellers with upcoming little girl birthday parties, and even treats for my Girl Scout troop.
All I simply had to do let’s see what was around at the stores, that would soon be post holiday clearance. 50% off is nice, but if you’re a little patient, it quickly becomes 70% or even 90% off.
These may not be things that you really need, so it is okay if they are not there when you get back. I was looking at the ornament drink mixer collections and thinking it would be fun for my weekend getaways with my scrapbook girl pals. After Christmas?
Not one to be found! I’m okay with that, lol
You do need to think outside of the box like when looking at red charger plates, not necessarily think about Christmas next year, but think Valentine’s Day or even being created for the 4th of July! Certain green things work great for st. Patrick’s Day… Gold turns any everyday moment into an elegant surprise.
So, I spent less than $50 between Wal-Mart and Target, and fully restocked my emergency bins…I also found a fun shirt for Miss Sarah to be part of her Christmas gift next year with a whopping price tag of $2. There were also some fun Elf on the Shelf gift set at Wal-Mart that our elf will randomly deliver next year. A candy cane thing full of mini nail polishes, a package of mini elf lip glosses, and even candy cane bath gel.
Snacks are fun to stock up on also! You can use your coupons with these and doubled up on the savings! make sure you walk through the store and just keep your eyes open. I found Betty Crocker bagged egg nog cookie mixes there were clearance priced but not part of the holiday clearance display. 2-packs of Kleenex with winter scenes on them, again, holiday clearance priced but in the end cap without any sign.
Now is the time to be starting to check out all the Valentine’s Day displays! I personally, look for things that only have hearts on them and not writing. You can give something that has a heart on it any day of the year, tucking in the lunch box, with a thinking of you note, or just when you feel someone might need a little perking up.
Happy Bargain Hunting!
