I was surprised to see the newest edition of Consumer Reports when it showed up this month,
they reviewed phones, tablets, cameras and more!
This magazine is particularly helpful to non-techy people like myself.
They think of everything to ask, test and try…things that I normally would have no clue about.
Now that I know what a BlackBerry Z10 is, and have experienced it,
I can really understand their review of it!
I have to say, I agree with everything they said.
The phone got fairly high marks in most categories.
Where did it take a hit?
Battery life and lack of apps.
They LOVED the intuitive text feature, BlackBerry Messenger and “Hub” features,
even the amazing camera with Story Maker (that I talked about HERE and HERE).
I DO see having it on trips because the Camera/Video feature is outstanding!
I can shoot 8-15 pictures and turn them into a memory video in less than a minute.
I, personally, have not had any issue with the battery.
I find it holds a charge all day, then I plug it in at night, just like my Android phone.
I do know that some participants in my group HAVE had issues and
have done everything from pull the battery to switching it.
I do, however, have an issue with the lack of apps.
Pretty much every money-saving app I use is not currently available for BlackBerry.
You know me, the “Coupon Queen” who uses everything from iBotta to Shop Kick.
Nope, not in the BlackBerry World.
I was given a list of suggested apps, but that doesn’t help when you can’t transfer credits built up with one company to the next. I need my apps!
Some of my Verizon Savers buddies have figured out how to load them “sideways” and I tried a few. It crashed my phone so I pulled them back out. (Read how to HERE)
So, that leaves me carrying TWO phones:
one for my REAL life of penny-pinching and one that my husband LOVES.
He is an engineer and likes the whole “no frills” thing.
Seriously, this is a GREAT phone for business…
unless your business is as the Chief Home Economist.
I am hopeful that there will be a lot more apps on the horizon,
but am not so sure the Verizon people are….
When I went to my local store to get a screen over and case,
I was asked “why on earth would you pick this phone”?
They know me — some have been to my classes.
Their general consensus was this: It’s a great phone but BlackBerry was too late to the party.
I don’t know about the party…
if BlackBerry is late, at least they can shoot great video of who is left attending.
