It is hard to remember that far back because I am 500 years old, but I went through puberty once-upon-a-time. I do remember the big school gym divided in half as the girls were on one side and the boys on the other. Gym teachers were showing both groups sex education videos (different for each group). I remember the horror at watching that black and white outdated film! They showed belts that resembled carters but the straps hung in the front and back. The clips on them were to hold the pads that we would soon need because they made it sound like we would bleed out like a soldier on the battlefield. Us girls looked around at each other with huge eyes and tried not to panic, only to learn at home that an adhesive strip was placed on the bottom of the pad for attachment to the saddle of the panties. The belted sanitary napkin quickly disappeared during the early 1980s, thank goodness. No one mentioned PMS.
Miss Sarah has endured the movies over the last few years and is stepping up into a young lady instead of my baby girl. I shared MY story of “body awareness” videos after she shared the education she got with her friends. We laughed and created her “emergency kit”.
One nice thing that is available now, is the PMS Package. For $29.99 a month (free shipping and a discount code below), you can send a special package to your favorite tween gal and show your support of the inevitable change she has to face.
From their website:
The fact is, PMS symptoms are real and while every woman has different symptoms, we know that women feel pain, discomfort, fatigue, and sometimes bad moods associated with the PMS cycle. Our goal is to create a package that addresses her every need – we also add some surprise and delight items to cheer her up just because she deserves it.
I got a box for Miss Sarah – and was delighted with what was inside (so was she)! Here is our un-boxing video:
Check them out yourself at PMS PACKAGE but make sure you use the code: PMS5 for a $5 discount!
disclaimer: I was compensated for this post, but all thoughts are entirely my own. I really think this is a great idea for tweens who are just starting this path in their lives, and makes it less daunting for them. You heard Miss Sarah’s comments on my video – she totally loved it!
