We have all know that this man is a world-renowned producer, director, actor, screenwriter, playwright, author, songwriter, entrepreneur, and philanthropist. What I wasn’t aware of is the fact that his life led him to a higher calling of faith and that his faith was what drove Tyler Perry to strive for excellence in his life.
In his new book, Higher is Waiting, he shares stories of his tragic childhood in New Orleans and heartfelt stories of the people along his path in life that created his faith, built his hope ans developed his faith in a higher power. He turned those unfortunate circumstances into a life that was also blessed enough to give back to others.
Since 2006, The Perry Foundation’s aim has been to transform tragedy into triumph by empowering the economically disadvantaged to achieve a better quality of life. They focus on health and clean water, education and technology, arts and culture, and globally-sustainable economic development.
Personally, I find that all amazing! In a time when so any people use their poor circumstances to give them an excuse to fail in life, a few use their inner strength to pull themselves up and reach for better. Then, a few of those turn around and give a hand to help someone else take a step up and out from where they don’t want to be.
I will never look at Madea the same way again.
Seriously, I have met some amazing people in my writing career — Montel Williams my favorite interview so far. The energy coming off of him as we talked, the motivation that poured off of him? Wow!
Tyler Perry is a man that I would love to have a visit with – maybe just a chat over a cup of coffee. I think he would be in the same league as Montel and an incredible conversational experience.
I enjoyed his book and am delighted to share the fact that I can give one away – it’s an incredibly uplifting and motivational treasure.
