In January I covered the New Year’s Resolution items, February was
National Canned food month, March was National Frozen food month, and we saw Easter Clearance items in April. May kicked off BBQ season, etc.
The idea is to create a stockpile that will last you 3-12 months, or until the product again reaches its lowest price. (Not that you can do that with fresh produce unless your process it!)
Convenience/Packaged Foods are seasonal just like produce!
Every month we have new things to look for. Here is what is “hot” for May – keep your eyes out for the sales and have your coupons ready.
Back To School!
We have already seen school supplies popping up on sale, now it’s time to start thinking of things to fill those school lunch boxes! Peanut butter, Juice Boxes/Capri Sun, Fruit snacks/roll ups, and lunch meats. This is also the time of year to look for hand sanitizers and disinfecting wipes – get enough for the YEAR!
It’s also National Coffee Month!
If you need that Cuppa Joe – watch for deals this month and STOCK UP!
I would also like to tell you to keep an eye out for things that have CORN in them – which accounts for just a little over 70% of the items in your store. In about 4 months – you are going to see some of those prices JUMP with the worst corn crop that our country has seen in about 25 years.
Summer Clearance is also starting up – you can get things like bug spray, sun screen, bubbles/chalk and charcoal pretty cheaply and stash away for next summer.
You also is want to keep stocking up on school supplies – watch for deals on everything from index cards to crayons. I like to stock up for the YEAR with extra crayons, makers and watercolor paints to add to coloring books for quick birthday gifts.
I hope this helps you know what to keep and eye out for!
