Wonder Woman Really Brings It

In 1941, All Star Comics created a new superhero. She was an amazon princess with god-like powers. Then in 1975, this heroine got her own TV show which was incredibly popular. Today she is one of the most iconic superheros alongside Batman and Superman, and has been saving the day with them since her creation. She is the awesome, the powerful, Wonder Woman!
Though while Batman and Superman have had countless movies and TV shows about them, prior to this year Wonder Woman has had only one show and one feature length movie. However now Wonder Woman finally hit the big screen, and she did it with a bang.
Princess Diana of Themyscira lives on an island inhabited only by women. These women are the protectors of earth from all evil and specifically the evil of Ares, the god of war. While the island is at peace, Diana still trains to become a powerful warrior. But when a pilot crashes on the island, he brings with him the thing the warriors feared most, war. Now Diana must travel to Germany with this pilot to help stop the Great War, and find Ares and defeat him so his powers will leave man alone and return them to peace. Along the way, Diana learns the true potential of her powers and the secrets they come with.
Starting with the film Batman vs. Superman, DC movies have started to try and do what Marvel pictures has done by connecting their movies together to create a cinematic universe. However so far this has consisted of Batman vs. Superman and Suicide Squad, both of which I did not care for very much. So when they announced Wonder Woman would be the next big film, I was carefully optimistic. Thankfully, those working on the film heard our worry and worked hard to create a wonderful film. This film is the true meaning of awesome. The cinematography was fantastic, something I always tell people is that DC almost never produces an ugly film, and this film satisfied that expectation. When we see the amazon warriors fight it is a treat, they are jumping around, riding on horses, shooting arrows, and you are glued to every second of it.
Wonder Woman, played by Gal Gadot, is charming and powerful throughout the whole film, no matter what is going on her presence is known and she is a joy to watch. The rest of the cast is also good, especially Robin Wright who plays Wonder Woman’s aunt who trains her on the island. Though she does not have much screen time, she managed to create a memorable character.
I will say the strongest part of the film is everything on the island. Seeing how these women run the island and how they work together to fight is so interesting and grabbing. This is not to say that the rest of the film is bad, but it never managed to reach the joy I felt watching the first third. Finally this is an action film and as a result there may be things unsuitable for children. There is a lot of violence, use of guns, and death. It never gets so bad that I would say kids should not see it, but it should be known that this film takes place during World War 1 and as a result it gets violent and there is blood sometimes. I also think that the main bad guys in the film could be scary to very young kids. Overall I loved the film and will probably be going to see it again before it leaves theaters.
I give Wonder Woman a 4 out of 5 stars.
