Easy Pizza Dip Recipe

I want you to know that this recipe is a guideline – I kept it super simple for you so it is easy to customize. Think of your favorite pizza toppings, or if you are making it for a crowd, think of things that pop in color like black olives, green pepper or red bell peppers, and even red onion or green onions!

Most kids like the simple version we share – it is basically pepperoni pizza in a bowl – you just have to DIP TO ENJOY!

Can you make this pizza dip in the crockpot?

Absolutely! It is probably one of our favorite ways to do it when we are in the middle of a very busy week – just layer all of the ingredients in the slow cooker, and let it cook until it’s nice and hot.

How long does pizza sauce last in the fridge?

Some people tend to use canned or jarred pizza sauce for this recipe and if you don’t find that you use it all at once, it tends to end up in the fridge. Unopened pizza sauce can last up to a year in the fridge while opened pizza sauce should be used within two weeks…which I know is against my normal rule of 4 days. The acid seems to help reduce the risk of decay.

What to serve with pizza dip?

Pizza dip is the perfect appetizer for your next party! Just serve it up with some chips, pita chips, crackers, or breadsticks and your guests will love it. You can also use pizza dip as the main course by serving it with some cut-up Boboli pizza crusts, or even pita bread triangles. Right now? Our go-to seems to be baguette slices and tortilla chips. Yum!

When we take it to a party we serve it with garlic or cheese bread, breadsticks, or even crackers.

What do you need to make Pizza Layer Dip

Here is a very simple version of our favorite recipe – you can add anything in place of the 6 ounces of pepperoni.

What if you don’t have pizza sauce?

You could substitute a marinara sauce – just don’t try a plain tomato sauce. Even red pepper flakes, onion powder, and your favorite toppings can’t help the layers of cheese compensate.

Can you use different kinds of cheese?

As far as a pizza dip goes, I would try to avoid things like cheddar cheese, or even parmesan cheese. You really need a cup mozzarella or two to make this work as we don’t add any sour cream to the cream cheese layer.

Do I have to use pepperoni?

No. You can substitute cooked-off and crumbled Italian sausage or even ground beef.

Can I make this into more of one of your Mexican Recipes?

Yes! I would use Queso Fresco instead of mozzarella, add a few diced green chiles to the cream cheese layer, think about using chorizo instead of the pepperoni, and probably garnish it with a little sour cream. It would be a great version for a holiday party too!
